How to get your health cert

Step 4 of joining as a chef is a food-safety or health-compliance certificate. You can sign up now and upload later — you need an accepted document before you take orders.

What we accept

Any one of these is enough. Upload a clear photo or PDF in the app.

    Food Handler’s Certificate

    Issued by your Metropolitan, Municipal, or District Assembly (MMDA) Environmental Health unit.

    Environmental Health certificate

    District assembly environmental health certification for food handlers.

    FDA Ghana food establishment registration

    For restaurants, packaged food, and other formal food establishments.

How to get a Food Handler’s Certificate

This is the usual path for home cooks and private chefs in Ghana. Assemblies set their own fees and clinic lists.

    Ask your local assembly

    Go to the Environmental Health unit at your MMDA and request a Food Handler’s Certificate. That is the usual health cert for home cooks, bakers, and private chefs.

    Complete the medical screening

    The unit will send you to an approved clinic or lab for the required tests. Bring a valid ID and be ready to pay the assembly’s fee.

  3. 3

    Collect the certificate and photograph it

    Return with your results, collect the issued certificate, and keep a clear photo or PDF. You upload that file in the Zula app.

  4. 4

    Register with FDA Ghana if you run an establishment

    Restaurants, catering kitchens, and packaged-food businesses also need FDA Ghana food establishment registration. Ask FDA Ghana for the current application steps.

Chef compliance checklist

  • You can create your chef account and profile before you have a certificate.
  • Upload one accepted document before you accept customer orders.
  • The certificate must be current — include the expiry date when you upload.
  • Accept the vendor compliance declaration in the app.
